The Munising Bay Cruisers Veteran Support Organization exists to honor and uplift the veteran community through a shared love of classic cars. Since 2013, our mission has been to raise funds and awareness for veterans’ causes while uniting people through an annual celebration of history, horsepower, and hometown pride.
Through our Cruise & Car Show and related events, we support organizations such as the All Veterans Memorial, the Wounded Warrior Fund, and the U.P. Honor Flight. With the help of dedicated volunteers, local sponsors, and a growing community of car enthusiasts, we strive to create meaningful experiences that celebrate service, sacrifice, and the spirit of Munising.
The Munising Bay Car Show began in 2013 as a grassroots effort by founders Gary Bovan and Tom Condon. Their goal was simple: create one last chance for car owners to show off their rides before winter—and use that opportunity to give back to veterans. The event quickly became more than just a car show; it became a gathering point for community pride and veteran recognition.
Gary Bovan, whose brother Paul was killed in Vietnam, found a powerful connection in this cause. Over the years, his partnership with local veteran leaders like Dan LaCombe of the Vietnam Veterans Chapter 237 helped shape the event into what it is today: a multi-day celebration filled with classic cars, community connection, and heartfelt moments of tribute. LaCombe’s Honor Flight tribute to Bovan's brother is just one example of the deep personal bonds forged through this event.
What began as a one-day show has grown into a two-day experience that includes a scenic cruise along the Hurricane Highway, music, food vendors, and awards chosen by the car owners, Munising City Mayor—and the veterans themselves.
Participants travel from across Michigan, Wisconsin, and even as far as Canada, Arizona, and Nevada to be part of the show. Despite the challenges of hosting large gatherings, including during the pandemic, the event continues to thrive year after year thanks to the dedication of volunteers, sponsors, and supporters.
Today, the Munising Bay Car Show is a regional favorite, offering something for everyone—from die-hard gearheads to families enjoying a Flintstones car ride. It’s a celebration of heritage, horsepower, and heartfelt service, all rolled into one unforgettable weekend.
